This is a Great opportunity for researchers, research institutes and companies from Sweden and Brazil to apply for bilateral co-creation projects. The research areas are health, smart cities, sustainable mining and bio economy. The deadline is the 30th of November 2020 and the projects are expected to start in January 2021. The total volume from Vinnova is SEK 6 million with a maximum of SEK 2 Million per project. From the Brazilian side, this will be equally matched via Embrapii.
Sweden and Brazil have signed a strategic partnership agreement with the aim of increasing innovation cooperation between industry and research organizations in both countries. Vinnova and Embrapii signed an MoU in October 2019 to further strengthen the collaboration. Since 2017 there also is a bilateral cooperation called SGI (Steering Group on innovation) between the Ministry of Science, technology and innovation (MCTIC) in Brazil and the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation (MEI) in Sweden. As a result of this cooperation, there has now been appointed 4 sub groups for further cooperation which are Smart Cities, Sustainable Mining, Health and Bioeconomy, to which this call is directed. Both Vinnova and Embrapii are, as finance agencies, essential partners for this bilateral cooperation.
Even though the mentioned call it is a bilateral call, each applicant must fulfil the national requirements from their national funding agency as well as the bilateral requirement on international cooperation. The project has to be carried out in collaboration between at least two Swedish parties (companies, and research organizations such as universities, universities or research institutes) and with at least two Brazilian actors, one of which is to be a company registered in Brazil and an Embrapii institute. For the final approval process, Embrapii and Vinnova respectively, will carry out the assessment of all applications received, based on the respective government routines, which differ in terms of both the documentation and the assessment process. Based on the results of the respective national assessment process, the selected Embrapii institute and Vinnova then make a joint decision on which projects to fund. Just to clarify, Vinnova will only be able to fund Swedish actors and Embrapii only Brazilian actors.
It should also be mentioned that the Swedish embassy in Brazil coordinates innovation weeks every year in Brazil. This year it is planned to be from the 9th to the 20th of November, which is a very good opportunity for creating and strengthen relations between all actors involved in research and innovation between Brazil and Sweden. More information about this will be posted at the SBII-homepage.
If you have any questions regarding the call, please contact the funding agencies (Vinnova and Embrapii) directly, contact information can be found in the links to call texts below.
